England

I have been in London for about a week now!

Second time lucky with the UK immigration. Although I'm only allowed to stay for two weeks.

I stayed with Tomas for two nights and he took me to some classic London pubs in the city centre. We also hired bikes one day and rode past the Big Ben etc. to the Tate Modern Gallery. I have to say I don't really get modern art that much. There was a Damien Hirst exhibition on though which was amazing. Look up his work - some of its pretty interesting. I think the sculpture of the castrated men in MONA is by him as well.

Since then, I've been staying with Nina in Hackney and she's been taking me around all the really indie/cool places in London like Brick Lane. She works most nights at a local bar and because there is only one set of keys to her room I stay up and then go pick her up from work most nights. Its a super nice bar though and while I wait for her to finish I get to chat to all the staff and get free drinks and Baklava :)

I have been at school which is ok.
My computer has been crashing even more! Last night I had about 5 tabs up in firefox, one of them was youtube and it crashed! I told dad and he said to go to the help desk at school. I am there now waiting for Michelle to get her computer fixed. They said its because of windows, then I said how every time I open my computer it tells me I dont have the proper windows they said to take it back to where i bought it and they will probably re-install it.

  3. Hi Amelia,
Glad to hear you are having such a good time in London. Brick Lane sounds interesting. Did you see much graffiti. I understand Banksy had some there. There is also supposed to be great curry houses and night clubs.
The bike riding and Tate Modern sound good too. I did google Hirst but his work is extensive and his art at MONA is not listed.
It looks as if you have missed solstice in Paris. I hear Paris has a big problem with organised thieves. I have also heard quite a few stories of people having problems with UK immigration and over zealous French police.
Hope your 14 days does not pass too quickly, and you get to do quite alot of the things you were planning to do. I read recently that London is considered the most expensive city in the world for a night out.
Anyway where are you planning to head to next? Don't forget Munich, and get in touch with Suzanne if you are having problems contacting Penelope.
Waiting in anticipation for your next installment (with pictures I hope)

  4. I haven't really done many touristy things in London. Just hung out - because I've been staying with Nina, our sleeping pattern is based around her working hours, so we are practically nocturnal. It is very expensive to go out in London! And London has a pretty shitty night life - everything closes at about 1/2am!

Yes, Mum, there is a lot of graffiti. I haven't sort out any Banksy pieces though.

I'm heading to Paris next. Back to backpacking and being in countries where english is a second language.

Good to hear that you have left your mac days behind Suzanne. I'm sure the super efficiency will make up for lack of attractiveness in time :)
